Binance introduces IOI feature to improve institutional crypto trading efficiency

Binance has launched a new Indication of Interest (IOI) feature for spot trading and fixed-rate crypto loans, so that institutional clients can execute large transactions with reduced market impact. The new Binance Spot and Loan IOI is designed for qualified users and allows them to privately signal buy, sell, borrow, or lend intentions without placing binding orders on public order books. The feature targets one of the long-standing challenges in crypto markets: executing large trades without triggering price slippage or exposing sensitive trading intentions. New feature brings tools that prioritize liquidity and efficiency In traditional financial markets, institutional traders often rely on IOIs to gauge liquidity while minimizing disruption. Binance’s implementation introduces a similar mechanism for digital assets , particularly for mid- and small-cap tokens, where liquidity can be more limited. Through Spot IOI, users can indicate interest in buying or selling sizable crypto positions at specific price levels without obligation. Loan IOI integrates with Binance’s fixed-rate loan infrastructure, allowing institutional borrowers and lenders to tailor loan terms based on their capital needs. By submitting IOIs via Binance’s OTC & Execution Services, institutional participants gain early visibility into available liquidity and can engage counterparties through private negotiations, reducing the risk of adverse price movements during execution. Catherine Chen, Head of VIP & Institutional at Binance, said of the launch: “Binance continues to lead the development of institutional crypto trading by delivering tools that prioritize liquidity and efficiency. Our Indication of Interest feature is pioneering for a crypto exchange, aligning with TradFi standards and meeting the sophisticated requirements of institutional traders who need to execute large transactions.” The IOI launch follows recent upgrades to Binance’s OTC & Execution Desk, including enhanced quote sourcing from multiple liquidity providers to improve spreads, pricing, and execution speed. The exchange said the new feature is part of its broader effort to support increasing institutional participation in digital asset markets. Featured image via Shutterstock.
